The Vernal Equinox hasn’t quite arrived, but we have been
blessed with a taste of Spring following a harsh winter storm last week. The robins are back in full force, a tiny
patch of green is observed here and there in the yard. Iris and tulip leaves are poking through the
ground. The tips of trees are beginning
to color.
I came across something brief while reading today that said
to do something nice for yourself for at
least one hour per day. Like most of us
in this busy world, I don’t have the luxury of a full hour usually, but I
treated myself to a bit of time on our deck this afternoon. The dogs had been duly petted and lay
snoozing at my feet and, except for the sounds of nature, it was quiet.
Join me for an incredible and completely sensual moment, if
you will, of one of the greatest delights as Spring returns and life begins
anew all around us. I hope I can
describe it well enough to take you there for at least a brief time.
A sunny, late afternoon in the fifties, with a light, cool
breeze, a comfortable glider to sit in and face the sun as it begins to draw down
to give an evening kiss to the foothills that surround this lovely valley.
The gentle warmth of the sun is enhanced by the deliciously
fresh, light breeze I inhale which is also filled with warm sunshine. A soft tinkling of wind chimes joins with
the delightful symphony of birdsong and the creek gurgles happily in the
distance.
The sun envelops me in its warmth and I sit, eyes closed, drinking
it in as someone just finding a well at the edge of a desert.
When I turn from the sun and open my eyes, it is to a deep,
piercing blue sky with a few white feathery clouds. I revel in the slow, lazy circles of the floating
buzzards as the sun and breeze continue to wrap around me. I turn back to the sun and close my eyes.
For now, time has no meaning.
